Matt Bray worked in banking for 15 years but felt a profound lack of meaning, and decided to trade in the secure but unfulfilling lifestyle for a more precarious but meaningful one as an artist in 2007. He studied BA and MA in Fine Art at University of Kent, graduating in 2012. Bray’s work explores ideas around human consciousness, with a particular focus on the relationship between subject and object, and for the past 3 years has also fostered collaborations with several high profile artists as a way of expanding his practice, focussing on play as a means of accessing the unfettered creative spirit.

Matt Bray co-founded Sick! alongside Zara Carpenter; creating an ongoing project exploring what it means to live with an invisible illness, and the Medway Print Festival with Allison Young; an annual celebration of printmaking in his hometown of Medway running for two weeks across 15 different venues, and growing in size and reputation every year. He has also curated exhibitions with some of the areas leading artists and helped create the Contemporary Open - an irregular open call exhibition showing international contemporary art.
